S.O.S. - Top Dog of the Month

May's Top Dog is Isabella!
Parent: Lynn
Age:  2.5 years
Breed: Australian Shepherd

How did your Pet-Kid become part of your family?
I was living and working (too much) in Alexandria, VA and while visiting my sister in Tampa, FL over Thanksgiving, she decided I needed “something” at home that would make me reprioritize things in my life. We stopped to see a new littler of Australian Shepherd puppies in her neighborhood. There was one Black Tri-Color female, the smallest in the pack. As I picked her up, she nestled between my shoulder & neck and made those squeaking noises puppies make and she captured my heart. A short time later, I returned to Tampa to bring Isabella (also known as Issy and Is) home to Alexandria, VA where we had a wonderful time hiking and exploring nearby parks on a daily basis. Now we’re in Tampa, FL continuing our explorations.
Favorite Toy:  Tennis Ball & Chuck It
Favorite Treat: Liver Treats
Favorite Activity: Running & Jumping
How long have you and your dog been in training?

How has Saling's Obedience helped your dog?
The dog was great! It was the human who needed help. Saling’s Obedience has provided instruction and guidance on various techniques and tools to work with, plus taught the human confidence when handling the dog.
Does your dog have any Certificates or Title?
No, we don’t focus on Certificates or Titles, we do Agility Training and just started Advance Obedience just for the fun & joy of doing it.
Comments or Stories:
A proud moment – As a young pup of 3 months, Isabella started hanging out with the “big” 100lbs plus dogs, Labs, Retrievers, Mastiffs, etc. and we used to go to an off-leash park that had a wonderful stream running through it. One section was a shallow gentle beach and another section was a steep, rugged incline straight into deep water. That’s where we humans stood above on dry land and threw the balls way out into the stream. Big dogs jumped from various heights and from every direction into the water. Isabella didn’t really swim so she would bound down the incline, bolder to bolder and stop at the edge of the water just getting her legs wet. She’d venture a little further each day but not quite take the plunge. One day she could stand it no longer. She followed her best bud Maslow right into the water, was half way out and all of a sudden did a 180 and was heading back for shore, her eyes wide open and a little panicked. The 8 or so humans on top of the ledge burst into words of encouragement “Issy you’re swimming! Yahoo!, Go Girl! You could see the fear leave her eyes and her pride grow. The other dogs returned to shore, a ball was tossed and this time Issy sprang into action, leaping far into the water from atop a bolder on a 4 foot ledge.
